Rebreather Maintenace

  • Although a rebreather adds another “layer” to the open circuit system, in no way is it
    complicated or difficult to maintain.

  • Upon initial exposure a student may exclaim ” oh my, this is going to take some time “. In
reality the maintenance, setup, breakdown and cleaning requires approximately the same
amount of time as open circuit.

  • Many of the pre-dive checks and maintenance requirements are the same as for OC.

  • An example of a few that are the same as for OC
Fill cylinders, analyze gas contents and mark contents.
Check all hoses for wear and damage
Check lp inflater and deflater functions

  • An example of a few additional checks
    Check breathing loop for leaks
Check operation of manual inject buttons
    Check microprocessor function
    Pre-breath for 3 minutes

  • Post Dive example of additional tasks
Rinse / clean counter lungs and breathing hose, hang to dry
Mark scrubber to indicate total use
